SANTEE, Calif. — The highly anticipated Santee Trader Joe's has an official grand opening date.

San Diego County’s newest Trader Joe’s located at 9680 Mission Gorge Road will open its doors during the store’s grand opening on August 1 at 9 a.m.
“Inside this neighborhood grocery store, customers will find outstanding value in the form of the best quality products at the best everyday prices and friendly Crew Members who create a shopping environment that imparts adventure, humor, and a warm sense of community,” Trader Joe’s said in a statement.
The artwork in the store’s 10,072 sq. ft. interior will highlight Santee landmarks, including the beloved Santee Lakes.
Trader Joe's said the Santee store will donate 100% of its products that aren't sold to different non-profit programs.
"Through the company’s longstanding Neighborhood Shares Program, the new Santee Trader Joe’s will donate 100% of products that go unsold but remain fit to enjoy to a range of non-profit, community-based organizations, seven days a week," the company said.
What's going on?
Since 2023, CBS 8 has been Working For You to figure out what was going on with the vacant Best Buy that sat empty for years.
Santee community members told CBS 8 that they had hopes that Trader Joe’s would be the building’s next tenant.
In December 2023, CBS 8 was the first to confirm that Trader Joe’s would be coming to Santee.
Santee has grown fast in the last few years. The city said it has brought 30 national chains to the city in the last five years and in 2023, California’s first small-format Macy’s opened in the former Bed Bath and Beyond store.
