SAN DIEGO — Kansas City Chiefs ended Super Bowl LV III as two-time champions, bringing the team to its fourth total win throughout NFL history and its third in five years.
Patrick Mahomes helped the team win when he threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman in overtime, and the Chiefs rallied to beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 on Sunday, becoming the first repeat Super Bowl champs in 19 years and ninth overall.
San Diegans showed support by painting the town red. Fans flocked to the Rooftop Cinema in Seaport Village, Kansas City BBQ downtown and Home and Away in Old Town to show their team spirit.
Chiefs fan Joshua Lake said he felt at home among the crowd.
"It's amazing," Lake said. "People fly in from out of town to come to this bar. It's like being at home. It's like being in Kansas City."
CBS 8 met up with a former NFL Chiefs cheerleader and San Diego Sharp nurse Rio Cohen.
"Once a cheerleader, always a cheerleader," Cohen said. "Yes! My Chiefs won!"
One Chiefs fan out on the town collects Super Bowl trophies when his team brings home the win.
"I got one for each win," Cameron Rios said. "Showing my loyalty and die hardness to the team. I almost love the Chiefs more than life itself."
Chief fans even inked themselves up showed support to their team.
Fans of international super star Taylor Swift are thrilled for boyfriend Travis Kelce's win — even if the proposal and Reputation TV announcement didn't happen.
In America's Finest City, Chiefs fans feel right at home in San Diego.
