Survey: How are street conditions in your neighborhood?

CBS 8 wants to know how San Diego County roads are where you live.

SAN DIEGO — Roads across the county have taken a beating after the recent storms but complaints of potholes, cracks, and uneven pavement are not a new problem for residents. After talking with mechanics and windshield repair people Tuesday about pothole damage, it became clear to us that these problems exist all over San Diego County.

We want to know how the streets are in your neighborhood. Take the short survey below to share your experiences with the roads now compared to how they were a year ago. CBS 8 is Working for You to determine trends throughout the region — but we need your help.

A new report just released by the city auditor says San Diego leaders need a comprehensive, long-term plan to fund fixes to city streets. The audit comes about a month after a separate report found that our road pavement rating has dropped significantly since 2016.

In May 2023, San Diego Mayor Gloria talked about his proposed budget for FY2024, highlighting a repaving project currently underway on La Jolla Parkway. His proposal allocates $140 million dollars for street repair, allowing them to resurface 157 miles of city streets.

There have been complaints made by residents in Spring Valley. In the 36 years James Firminger has been living in Spring Valley, he says the roads haven't been repaved. Potholes have been filled in, but it's never a permanent fix.

Jan Brown lives in Clairemont and has a big pothole next to her driveway. There were multiple on her street. City workers came and filled a few a couple of weeks ago. But they ignored the one just a few steps away they had painted lines around eight months ago. No one has come back since.

"It's very frustrating," she said.

She's worried about what could happen to drivers.

"Someone's going to get hurt," Brown said. "It's just a matter of time."

In Los Angeles, former Governor and actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger made headlines when he filled in a pothole himself in his Brentwood neighborhood.
