Two suspects accused of violent baseball bat attacks in Oceanside plead not guilty

Six victims were treated for head and facial injuries after they were randomly attacked in August.

VISTA, Calif. — Two suspects accused of randomly attacking people with baseball bats near the Oceanside harbor last month appeared in court Thursday.

Police say there are five suspects accused of violently attacking several people in the Oceanside harbor. Two of them faced a judge Thursday and pleaded not guilty.

Deputy District Attorney Ted Minahan is known to prosecute gang-related cases. He was limited in releasing details about the case but police say the attack is gang-related.

Pablo Gonzalez, 21, and Jorge Perez, 20, were charged with multiple felonies in connection to the attack.

“Both individuals face multiple charges, with assault with a deadly weapon, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and robbery,” said Minahan.

The prosecutor requested bail be set at $250,000 for Gonzalez and Perez to remain in jail with no bond and the judge agreed.

“Mr. Perez was charged with the weapon at the time of the assault,” said Minahan.

However, since Perez and Gonzalez violated probation they won’t be able to bail out of jail.

This incident happened on August 17 just before 9 pm. Oceanside Police say they responded to the harbor near the near the beach where several men were sent to the hospital with injuries from a baseball bat.

Police say there were several suspects; some wearing bandanas covering their faces. When officers arrived, the suspects fled the scene.

Surveillance video or witness video has not been released. The judge agreed to a protective order of the police body worn cameras.

“This body worn camera is when officers arrived on the scene,” said Minahan.

Perez and Gonzalez were arrested on Tuesday.

Detectives say they are still searching for three more suspects, if you have any information, you’re urged to call Oceanside Police gang unit at 760-435-4264.
